ECU Receives Grant and Contract

Teresa Conner-Kerr, PhD, PT, CWS(D), Dept of Physical Therapy, P. Karen Sullivan, PhD, MT (ASCP), SM (ASCP), Dept. of Clinical Laboratory Science and Kenneth Salleng, DVM, Dept. of Comparative Medicine Comparison have been awarded a grant for $41,291.00 to perform a preclinical study entitled "Comparison of the effectiveness of Celleration mist ultrasound therapy (CMUT) and Pulsatile Lavage (PL) on the prevention of necrotic, yellow
slough in an acute, full thickness porcine surgical wound."

Teresa Conner-Kerr, PhD, PT, CWS(D) and P. Karen Sullivan, PhD, MT (ASCP), SM (ASCP) in partnership with Joi Massey, PT, Director of the Dept. of Physical Therapy at Wilson Memorial Hospital have been awarded a clinical
trial contract to participate in a 254 patient multicenter study involving 20 centers in the United States and Canada.

The study is entitled: Mist Ultra-Sound Transport (MUST)
Clinical Trial: Incidence of Closure of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Comparative Prospective, Randomized, Double-Masked, Parallel Group, Controlled Trial of MUST(tm) Therapy Versus Sham Control When Added to Standard of Care in the Treatment of Diabetic Neuropathic Ulcers.
