Online Tools Available for Recruiting, Retaining Radiologic Technologists

July 3, 2002

A wealth of information, data, and real-world advice on the radiologic technology work force is now available in the Recruitment and Retention Tool Kit of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT).

Available at www.asrt.org, the Tool Kit is a collection of the latest statistics, useful tips, case studies and how-to information on the topics of recruitment and retention. Through this resource center, everyone from radiology managers, hospital HR directors, and radiologic science educators to radiologists and technologists can do their part to help strengthen the radiologic technology work force and address the well-publicized shortage of workers in this profession.

A highlight of the Tool Kit is five streaming video segments that describe educational options and career opportunities in radiography, sonography, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy.

Other sections of the Tool Kit include:

  • Recruitment--for people investigating the profession as a career and those responsible for recruiting technologists.
  • Retention--for radiology managers who want to improve employee satisfaction and decrease turnover rates.
  • Regulations--provides background information about laws, regulations, and standards that affect radiologic technologists, with links to state licensing laws.
  • Resources--connects radiologic technologists to career management tools, patient education materials, and work force information, with a link to the ASRT's online job-search service.
  • References--offers survey data and supply and demand statistics.
  • Profiles--features brief, first-person profiles of successful radiologic technologists who work in clinical settings as well as in management, education, and industry.
