Meeting Minutes from December 5, 2001 accepted and approved.

Healthcare Issues in NC, Leah Devlin, DDS, MPH, NC State Health Director.

In Dr. Devlin's presentation, she covered several items:
- System fix
- Immunizations
- Medicaid
- Partnerships/Collaborations

Initiatives
- Healthy Carolinians

III. Council Updates
  1. Duke Endowment Grant
  2. Budget
    • $400,000 total
    • $150,000 first year
    • $150,000 second year
    • $100,000 third year
  3. Director Search
    • We have received twenty-three (23) applications for the Executive Director position. We are waiting for approval to proceed in the application process.
IV. Data Committee Report - Alan Brown

Ms. Susan Dyson was introduced and welcomed as a new member to the Sheps Center

VI. Updates from Allied Health Association Presidents
  1. David Lewis, NC Physicians Assistants Association
    • Celebrated their 25th year. State Health has 4 PA programs. All programs offer Masters degree. Receive a 3 year grant with Duke to have an offsite Internet program in an effort to reach rural areas.
  2. David Wysocki, NC Occupational Therapy Association (Handout)
  3. Eileen Watkins, NC Physical Therapy Assn.
    • Re-elected for another 3 years. There has been a decline across the State both at the private institutions, and at the State level for physical therapy programs for PT students, and a decline at the community level for PTA students. Introduce a bill on the National level across the US to have direct access to Medicare.

    • Strategic priorities for 2002
      1. Workforce
        • Increase student enrollment in academic programs.
        • Offering new coding and privacy credentials
        • Plans to target non-traditional prospective students and research projects, such as the NC Study on Workforce Issues.
      2. Membership
        • Consistent growth rate of approximately 3%
      3. Increased enrollment of online students
