About the Council for Allied Health in North Carolina

Accomplishments
  1. Ongoing and open forum for sharing information and issues related to:
    • Education
    • Professional trends
    • Workforce availability of allied health professionals
    • Recommending healthcare delivery models for beneficial, accessible and cost-effective allied health services.
  2. Developed a plan to address serious workforce shortages in 1994.
  3. Collaborated with statewide communities in a successful initiative to seek legislative approval and funding for the expansion of programs in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology.
    • Graduates of these expanded programs entered the workforce in 1998.
  4. Served as a forum for facilitation of advancement of school-based Speech-Language Pathologists to Masters level preparation.
  5. Established a survey and model database with the Sheps Center of supply and demand information on the allied health workforce in North Carolina.
